Club Do 2004
The 2004 do was held at Saturday 19th June. The rideout from Kippax welfare was well attended with over 60 scooters. Terry from Torch Engineering led the rideout through the village and out through Garforth, Aberford, Barwick, Crossgates and then back along Selby Rd and into Kippax, where we "buzzed" the Moorgate pub, as one of it's regulars is an old scooterist. Terry brought everyone back safely to the Old Tree Inn. This was our first event at our HQ and all went well (as parking is a bit restricted). Thanks to the local Co Op for allowing us to park most of the scooters out side their supermarket front entrance. There was food put on for everybody of chip butties and pie & peas. Apologies to anyone who didn't manage to get any pie & peas. We catered for a certain number but didn't realise that hungry scooterists would eat more than one each. The record looked to be 4 pies in one bowl, we will be ready next year!!!
On to the custom show. Both Phil Varley and Terry Grant of Torch Engineering presented the trophies ( as well as sponsoring them!!). It's hard to pick winners as our judges found out. The results are as follows.
1) BEST STANDARD LAMBRETTA - RED GP150 - Owner Mark Cudine
2) BEST STANDARD VESPA - RED SS180 - Owner Alan (Bill) Balsham
3) BEST STREET RACER - BLUE/YELLOW GP IMOLA 185 - Owner Neil Gill
4) BEST CUSTOM LAMBRETTA - GP200 "Street Beat" - Owner Steve Groves
5) BEST CUSTOM VESPA - T5 "Del Malossi" - Owner Phil Knowles
6) BEST MOD SCOOTER - RED T5 - Owner Mark Sheerman
My favourite ..although it didn't win anything was the John Player Special took me back to the early 70's.
The evening do was held at Kippax Welfare and was well attend. We even had some over night campers this year. A trouble free night with cheap beer and a late--late bar, so everyone had fun. Special thanks to Jaime and Sam the DJ's. Jaime has a great collection of records mostly vinyl's some worth in excess of £300, so it's not only scooters that are expensive nowadays. A special thanks to Derek Chaplin for organising the days events, also thanks to all the clubs and individual riders that made it such a great day!
